MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – Dane County’s Lussier Family Heritage Center will offer weeklong Junior Naturalist camps next summer to help connect Dane County kids with the outdoors. The camp is geared toward working families, and will be priced comparably to other childcare options, with tuition assistance available for qualifying families.
Located on Madison’s south side in William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park on the shores of Lake Waubesa, the Lussier Family Heritage Center is a multi-use educational and interpretive center for people of all ages to connect with the outdoors. The Junior Naturalist camp is for kids ages 6-14 to get them more connected with the world around them.
The weeklong camp will run throughout the entire summer, with different themed weeks for different age groups. Kids will be placed into one of four age groups to participate in activities like exploring the native wildlife and water, rock climbing, canoeing, and camping for older kids. There is even a Hunter Safety week for older kids, where they can earn their Hunter Safety certification by the end of the week.
“We are beyond excited to offer expanded summer camp programming in Dane County Parks,” Dane County Parks Engagement & Visitor Services Manager Lael Pascual said in a press release. “Campers will be given the opportunity to build their confidence through outdoor exploration, environmental education, and recreation activities. We hope this camp provides a positive and fun experience for each camper that they will always remember.”
Registration begins on February 1st at 8AM. Costs for the weeklong camp begin at $300, and can vary depending on the chosen week. The county does offer tuition and fee assistance to qualifying families to help children from all backgrounds to participate in the camp.
