MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – Kristen Roman, UW-Madison Police Department’s chief, has resigned, according to a release from the university on Monday.

Brent Plisch, who has been with the UWPD since 2005, was named the interim chief.

“I thank Chief Roman for her service to UWPD and UW–Madison,” Robert Cramer, UW-Madison Vice Chancellor, said. “I have every confidence Interim Chief Plisch will be an effective leader who will strive to keep our community safe, while also building bridges to a wide range of stakeholders, both on and off campus.”

The reason for Roman’s resignation wasn’t announced in the release. Roman was the UWPD’s chief since 2017. Prior to joining the UWPD, she worked for 26 years at the Madison Police Department.
