Wisconsin Rapids, Wis (WFHR, WIRI) – The annual United We Can Hunger Event will happen at Witter Field on June 18th, 2024. This fun event helps raise awareness of local food disparity and increase access to food resources in south Wood County. Community members form teams to compete building sculptures from donated food and basic need items.

What’s happening

The teams will have between 10am and 4pm on June 18th to build the sculptures at Witter Field. A panel of judges will view the sculptures and grant awards for the “Most Nutritious” and “Most Creative” sculptures. The judging will take place during the game between the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and the Battle Creek Battle Jacks. Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to vote on a “Community Choice Award”. Winning teams will receive their awards on the field during the game!

How to participate

Interested community partners can register a team for the United We Can event. You can register on the United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties website. You can also call Ben Eberlein directly at 715-421-0309 or email him at ben@uwswac.org. Register by May 1st and your team will be entered to win Craft River tickets to a 2024 Rafters game.

What happens to the food?

Following the event, the items used to build the sculptures are distributed by the South Wood County Hunger Coalition. The food and donated items go to local food programs. The United We Can event started in 2013. Since then, 72,496 pounds of food and basic need items have been donated to fight hunger and need in our community.
