OCONTO, WI – (WISS and WGBW) – Elijah Behnke announces his run for the 6th Assembly District through a social media post this week.
Behnke, of Oconto, originally planned to run in the 4th Assembly District after he was drawn into it with fellow Republican David Steffen of Green Bay. However, he has since changed his mind and will instead run for Assembly District 6.
Behnke was originally elected to the 89th Assembly District in a special election in 2021. That assembly district included Suamico, Oconto, Marinette, and Peshtigo. None of those population centers are included in the new 6th AD.
He will run against GOP incumbent Representative Peter Schmidt of Bonduel.
The 6th Assembly District is 67% Republican. It includes Pulaski, Shawano, and Clintonville. It includes Menominee County and parts of Shawano, Brown, and Oconto Counties.
