Four arrested in murder of Madison 15-year-old

MADISON, Wis. – Police have arrested four people they say are responsible for killing a 15-year-old girl on the city’s east side last year.

In October 2023, Kyesha Miller was outside the Harmony Apartments with friends and her sister. Stills of surveillance video released by Madison Police show four people getting out of an SUV. Police said four teens were shot, including Miller’s sister.

The murder deeply hurt the community. It was especially hard for Madison East High School students, who lost a classmate and friend.

Authorities later found the car and tested whatever they could inside it.

In a press conference Wednesday, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said a man was taken into custody on drug and gun charges on Sunday. He said authorities were able to connect that man to Miller’s murder.

Four men are now in custody for the crime. Barnes said they’re all in their early 20s and from the Madison area.

He added that more arrests in the future are “very likely”.

“I know that our work is not done,” Barnes said. “There were four persons seen on video who exited the vehicle with firearms, and obviously one person who was driving. Certainly we believe that there may be other people involved.”

There’s still one big question for investigators: they still don’t understand the motive.
