The 1st Congressional District in southeastern Wisconsin has become more competitive and Steil is facing the first serious challenge of his young political career.

Pete Barca, right, a veteran Democrat politician from Kenosha, held the seat in the 1st Congressional District for one term in the mid-1990s and served many years as Minority Leader in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
